Bob Richards' movie reviews, November 20
As expected, the last Twilight movie sucked the money out of movie goers wallets to the tune of 141.3 million dollars – about a million less than New Moon and 3 million more than Breaking Dawn Part 1, and joins the other two on the top ten list of all time debuts, at number eight. Skyfall fell to second with a respectable 41.5 million and Lincoln earned 21 million for third place. Three films tied for 10th place including Oscar contender The Sessions with $900,000.

(The Sessions – Fox Searchlight – Rated R)
Despite the full nudity from Helen Hunt, The Sessions is not sexy but warm, compassionate and wonderful. It’s the true story of a man with polio who wants to experience physical love. John Hawkes gives the performance of a lifetime that is sure to be nominated for an Oscar. William H. Macy is also delightful as an advice giving Priest. This heartwarming film brought a tear to my eye, and is one of the very best of 2012. Don’t miss it!!! 5 Stars Out of 5
(Lincoln – Dreamworks – Rated PG-13)
In Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Daniel day Lewis so embodies the part, I completely forgot I was watching an actor. I loved his portrayal. I have seldom seen an actor so disappear into his part. He is certain to earn an Oscar nomination. This exceptional film is a bit talky at times, but overcomes it with terrific performances from James Spader, Sally Field and especially Tommy Lee Jones. It isn’t a biopic, but portrays a pivotal moment in American history. It is reverent, moving, powerful, and beautiful. I loved it. 4 ½ Stars Out of 5
(Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2 – Summit Entertainment – Rated PG-13)
It is so sad that the Twilight Saga is finally over. What will we do without Edward, Jacob and Bella to dream about? Breaking Dawn Part 2 is everything I thought it would be, although it does take 20 full minutes for Jacob to strip to his skivvies and show us his abs. My favorite part was when Bella ***sparkled***…she sparkled! She looked so beautiful! There’s just something about animated corpses that is so, so romantic. Someone asked me if I liked it…Did I like it? Well, no, of course I didn’t! Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a bad movie that just caps a series of bad movies. This time, Bella has turned into a vampire, which means she gets to wear red contact lenses too. And she and Edward can fully consummate their sweet, sweet vampire love. They also have a creepy CGI baby who looks like she is floating when she appears on screen. The baby effects are almost as bad as the wolf effects. But the effects pale in comparison to the script. It is a dragged out mess with WAY too many characters. There are probably 2713 characters too many in this silly, stupid, horribly acted excuse for a movie. Michael Sheen is most especially terrible in his so called portrayal as the head of the vampires. I laughed out loud more than once at his over the top, campy, fey portrayal. Oh, and there is an ending that will leave you feeling cheated and used. I know I wanted to take a shower or two after being subjected to it. When it was over all I could say was “Thank God.” So…glad…” that is until the inevitable reboot. 2 Stars Out of 5
