Home Entertainment Preview: October 9, 2012
Ridley Scott’s beginnings, Hitchcock, a musical man eating plant and Lucy this week on DVD and Blu-ray…
(Prometheus – 20th Century Fox – Rated R)
Ridley Scott's Prometheus is a cool prequel to Alien that is creepy, has plenty of "ick" moments and like all good Science Fiction, makes you think.
The 4 disc blu-ray set includes seven hours of bonus materials including an Alternate Opening and Ending, Deleted and Alternate Scenes and more.
(Dial M for Murder – Warner Brothers – Rated PG)
(Strangers on a Train – Warner Brothers – Rated PG)
Two of Alfred Hitchcock’s thrillers come to Blu-ray…Dial M for Murder was originally shot in 3-D and comes to 3-D blu-ray along with a featurette, while Strangers on a Train’s blu-ray debut includes two versions of the film, a documentary, three featurettes and more.
(Little Shop of Horrors – Warner Brothers – Rated PG-13)
1986’s Little Shop of Horrors comes to blu-ray in a director’s cut that includes the original more sinister ending that was reshot after preview audiences panned it. I liked it better. The set includes both the director’s cut and original theatrical versions of the film, commentary, two featurettes, outtakes and deleted scenes.
(What Ever Happened to Baby Jane – Warner Brothers – Not Rated)
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford’s legendary Whatever Happened to Baby Jane comes to blu-ray and looks terrific. This hugely entertaining camp classic includes commentary, four featurettes and more.
(The Lucy Show – Paramount – Not Rated)
The sixth and final season of one of my favorite childhood TV shows, The Lucy Show comes to DVD with 24 episodes on 4 DVD’s. Included are several wonderful extras. Outtakes, clips, and a lot more round out this great set. It’s My Pick of the Week!
