 Home Entertainment Preview for 11-13-12

Spiderman’s reboot, a brave redhead, an all time great epic and more this week on DVD and Blu-ray…

(The Amazing Spiderman – Sony – Rated PG-13)
In The Amazing Spiderman, a darker tone prevails to good results. New star Andrew Garfield is good - he takes the character to different places than Tobey Maquire did. And I liked Emma Stone - but I always like Emma Stone. Extras include 90 minutes of making of featurettes, deleted scenes, commentary and more.

(Brave – Disney – Rated PG)
Brave is somewhat conventional, entertaining, exciting and at times, touching. It is beautifully done, and so realistic, her hair took my breath away more than once. While it didn't quite hit the bulls-eye of previous Pixar films, I was captivated. The blu-ray includes over 20 bonus features – a short, featurettes, commentary and extended scenes.

(Lawrence of Arabia – Sony – Rated PG)
One of the greatest films ever made, David Lean’s epic Lawrence of Arabia won 7 Academy awards, including Best Picture and Best Director in 1962, and introduced the word to the force of nature called Peter O’Toole. Now on blu-ray and looking better than ever, you have to see this amazing, wonderful film! Packed with new bonus features, many vintage features, and also available in a four disc gift set, It’s My Pick of the Week!

(My Big Fat Greek Wedding – HBO – Rated PG)
It’s been ten years since My Big Fat Greek Wedding stole hearts and became the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time. Now on blu-ray for the first time, the tenth anniversary edition includes a new 30 minute retrospective along with deleted scenes and commentary.

(Vamps – anchor Bay – Rated PG-13)
Directed by Amy Heckerling, and starring the very funny Alicia Silverstone and Krysten Ritter, Vamps is an entertaining, funny vampire comedy that I enjoyed. While it has the feel of a TV movie, it’s worth a look. There are no bonus features.
