Local sisters' family recipe blog hits bookshelves
After starting up a blog to ease the sharing of family recipes, sisters Erica, Emily, Elise, and Echo started getting hundreds of thousands of hits a month. Now their cook book, "Favorite Family Recipes" is on store shelves.
The book is available at Deseret Book and Seagull Book and will soon be available at Costco. Erica Walker and Elise Donovan, two of the sisters who live in the Treasure Valley, came to our studio to give Good Morning Idaho a taste of one of their breakfast recipes.
Below is the recipe for Caramel Apple French Toast, which they made on the show.
Caramel Apple French Toast:
1 loaf French bread
6 eggs
11/2 C. milk
1/3 C. sugar
1 T. vanilla
6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
Cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated
sugar, and brown sugar to taste
Cut bread into large slices (about 3 inches wide) and arrange in a 9 x 13 pan lightly coated with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Pour mixture over bread slices. Arrange apples on top of bread. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, and brown sugar over the apples (sprinkle the brown sugar the most generously).
Cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning bake at 350 for 1 hour, until golden brown. Top with your favorite caramel topping.
To make your own caramel topping, combine 1 pkg. wrapped caramels (unwrapped) and 2/3 C. whipping cream; melt in microwave.
