BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Members of Idaho's congressional delegation say they are working to ensure Baptist missionaries being detained in Haiti on child kidnapping charges have access to legal help and medical attention. Of the 10 Americans, eight are from Idaho. In a statement Thursday, Republican Sens. Mike Crapo and James Risch, along with Democratic Rep. Walt Minnick and Republican Rep. Mike Simpson, said they hope the matter will resolve quickly. The Baptist missionaries were charged Thursday in Haiti for trying to take 33 children out of the country after the Jan. 12 earthquake. The Americans said they were rescuing abandoned children and orphans. But at least two-thirds of the children have parents who gave them away because they said the Americans promised the children a better life.
