Boise Green Living: Christmas Light Exchange

The holiday season has arrived at Home Depot. Decorations abound at the front of the Boise store and so does a big discount on LED lighting.

Most of us have standard Christmas lights around the house. Now Home Depot is encouraging Treasure Valley residents to trade those old strings in for a discount on new, more energy efficient LED lighting.

From now until November 15, you can bring in a string of old lights and get a coupon for three dollars off a set of new Led lights. There’s a five string per customer limit and one coupon per box allowed but no shortage of variety. "Every light that has been made in a conventional bulb is now available in LED," explains Home Depot Supervisor Brian Smith.

Smith said one traditional seven watt bulb uses the same energy as roughly 140 LED lights, “You can string 87 strings together on one outlet. The Tim Taylors among us will do well with LEDs.”
