Southwest District Health (SWDH) will be providing a H1N1 community vaccination clinic in Canyon County on Saturday, November 7 at the former Sportsman's Warehouse, 16865 Marketplace Blvd. in Nampa (I-84 and Karcher Road behind McDonald's), 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Health officials stress the vaccine supply should be close to the amount available for the last two weeks, so no one should come to the clinic before 10:00 a.m., especially since it is forecasted to be cold and rainy. They also want to remind those parents with children 9 and under who had there first H1N1 vaccination on October 17, that it is recommended to get a booster within the next two weeks. (If a parent exceeds the 21 to 28 days, the booster is still recommended for effective protection against the virus.)
During the last three clinics held at the former Sportsman's Warehouse location, SWDH has provided 8,834 vaccinations.
Both H1N1 live, attenuated (weakened) flu nasal spray vaccine and H1N1 inactivated vaccine (injections) will be offered to the priority groups as defined by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).
SWDH has kept their priority groups the same for all vaccination clinics. These include:
* Pregnant women
* People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months
of age
* Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
* Persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
* People ages of 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk
for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised
immune systems.
Additional clinics in Canyon County will be scheduled at the former Sportsman's Warehouse location, on Saturday, November 14 and 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., depending on vaccine availability. No clinic is scheduled for November 28.
