The Census Bureau is getting $1-billion dollars in stimulus money for next year's census and it's paying off in Idaho by getting people back to work.
The 2010 Census is attracting a lot of people who want to work.
"We've had applications from approximately 7,300 people across the state," said the Idaho Census Bureau Manager Dave Mulvihill.
But not everyone will be getting a job.
"For this current operation we're going to be hiring including our office staff about 12-hundred people so it's quite a few jobs across the state," said Mulvihill.
The Idaho Census Bureau said they have a lot of ground to cover.
Something new for this year are hand held computers that record the addresses of homes.
Dave Mulvihill said it is extremely important that people respond to the letters they send out and to get an accurate count.
"It brings in money from the federal government percentage wise and for every person who does not get counted it costs the state on average $300 dollars per person per year," said Mulvihill.
The Idaho Census Bureau is currently not taking anymore applications.
But they will open it up for more people to apply this fall.
