Weekends in the Treasure Valley are one of our favorite things. There is always so much going on that it seems like the only predicament we have when it comes to making weekend plans, is how to pick one event over the other. If you’re looking for plans this weekend, look no further- there is a little something in the Treasure Valley for everyone these next few days!

 

For the Family:

 

Now through January 1st the Idaho Botanical Gardens have turned into a winter wonderland. Walk through the Winter Garden aGlow and take in their gorgeous display of over 300,000 lights! Swing by Friday through Monday and see Santa Claus and one of his reindeer. The Winter Garden aGlow is open every day through New Years from 6-8:45 PM. This Friday and Saturday night is your last opportunity to take a free horse drawn carriage ride in downtown Boise. From 4 to 8 PM you can catch your ride around the capitol on the corner of 9th and Bannock out front of Washington Trust Bank.

 

Round up your family this Friday night for a Christmas Lights tour through Nampa! This bus tour starts at 5:45 PM at the Nampa Rec Center and will take you around town to view stunning light displays. Looking at Christmas lights isn’t the same without hot coffee, so there will be a pit during the tour to grab a drink to warm up with! For Everyone:

 

Kick off your weekend with the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker” at Ballet Idaho! The company’s professional dancers will take the stage with 100 children from Ballet Idaho’s Academy to bring this timeless tale to life. Catch the show Friday or Saturday night, you can reserve your tickets here.

 

This Saturday morning is the Treasure Valley YMCA Christmas Run. Get decked out in your best christmas costume and choose between running 1, 2 or 6 miles through downtown Boise. There will be a costume contest on the Boise High School steps before the race starts. You can register for this event here.

 

Looking for adventure this weekend? Brundage Mountain in McCall is hosting the USSMA Northwest Passage Ski Mountaineering Race on December 16th and 17th. Starting after lifts close on Friday, there will be races that require participants to make a vertical climb up the mountain on skis. Participate in this event or just come up and watch. After the races Saturday night, head to downtown McCall to celebrate at the Backcountry Film Festival for a post race BBQ and awards ceremony. For the Night Owl:

 

Kick off the weekend with a show paying tribute to one of music's most loved heavy metal bands. This Friday, Blistered Earth (The Ultimate Tribute to Metallica) will be putting on a show at the Knitting Factory! The show starts at 8 PM, tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

 

Theater buffs and lovers of satire will love Platform Boise’s production of White People Christmas, by Academy Award winner Ernest Thompson. Originally released in 2003, this show has not been done since, and is truly a once in lifetime opportunity. Showing at Xanadu Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Boise Classic Movies final installment of their Christmas series is this weekend! Saturday night, they will have a 21+ showing of Christmas Vacation at the Egyptian Theatre starting at 9:15 PM. Enjoy beer, wine, and mulled wine while you watch this Christmas classic. Be sure to reserveyour seat for this event!

 

Get your dance on Saturday night with Salsa Idaho’s Red Hot Holiday Salsa Party at the Knitting Factory! They’ll have Beginner Lessons in Merengue, Bachata & Salsa as well as entertainment and social dancing. Tickets range from $6-$12 and you can snag yours here.
