People from all around the world packed the Idaho Center for the Special Olympics World Winter Games opening ceremonies. It was a spectacle full of sights and sounds. Musician Kenny G performed a song he wrote specifically for the games. More than 2,000 athletes from nearly 100 countries filled the arena floor. Every country got its own introduction. Some even walked in with celebrities, like the Japanese who were led by former Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi. The biggest cheer came for the largest delegation of athletes in the games, the team from the United States. For the friends and family of the athletes, many who traveled long distances to be here, the games represent more than competition. They say it gives the Olympians confidence and helps them build skills they can use for the rest of their lives. "It helps them to make friendships and keep friendships growing," said Deb Clason, who traveled to Idaho from Illinois to watch her friend compete in the games.
