The Boise School District is laying off 122 people.
The process will start next week as most of those losing their jobs are new teachers who were under a one-year contract.
The district says it has been struggling with a drop in enrollment and can no longer sustain the staff. About 85% of the district's budget is tied up in personnel.
"So we find ourselves needing to get ahead of the game and make decisions now based on what the legislature is signaling to us and other school districts in the State of Idaho," said district spokesman, Dan Hollar.
Most of the cuts will come from the high school level, but reductions are also planned at the elementary schools and in administration.
