ACHD Plows Robie Creek Road

Posted: Updated:

The Ada County Highway District is helping keep the Race to Robie on track by plowing a section of the road covered in snow. It's about a ten-mile long stretch that has snow piled up to six-feet high and ACHD maintenance calls the race "impossible" without plowing.

"You'd probably have to do it in snowshoes on the backside, or skis," ACHD Maintenance Superintendant Randy Noble said.

The race is slated for April 19, but the snow wouldn't melt on its own until early June. But regardless of the race, ACHD does the plowing annually since part of Robie Creek Road is in their jurisdiction.

"We have no control over the race, they run it when they run it," Noble said. "It wouldn't matter if it was July, we'd have to come and dress up this road anyway because it traditionally gets rough."

ACHD said the road treatment serves a two-fold purpose: to allow for the race and decreased maintenance down the line.

"By getting the heavy snow off the road, it cuts down on the erosion fixes we have to do later," Noble said.

ACHD said the plowing will take two days.
