BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The Boise community ombudsman has found no fault by four Boise police officers during a confrontation with an armed Iraq War vet in an apartment building last July. Ombudsman Pierce Murphy says the actions of the Boise police officers were reasonable and necessary to protect the officers and others. The four officers fired 12 shots at George Nickel Jr., of Boise, but did not hit him. Murphy says Nickel shot into two apartments and then pointed a handgun at officers. He pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling late last year. He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 1, and he remains in the Ada County Jail. Nickel was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery in Iraq.
