Boise Police say they have arrested a California man after some nine pounds of marijuana were found in his truck.
Jacob D. Shimel, 24, of Dana Point, California was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance.
Earlier this month, officers of the Boise Police Narcotics Unit (BANDIT) Task Force eceived an anonymous tip stating Shimel was transporting large amounts of marijuana from California to Boise to sell. Late Tuesday afternoon, BANDIT and other Boise Police units conducted a traffic stop on Shimel in the area of Emerald and Milwaukee Streets.
A police canine was used to search Shimel's GMC pickup. According to Boise Police spokesman Charles McClure, "Approximately nine pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of roughly $40,000 dollars, was located in the bed of his vehicle. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the drug trafficking charge.
If found guilty, Shimel could to sentenced to a mandatory three years in prison and fined not less than $10,000.
The BANDIT Task Force investigates gambling, prostitution and illegal drug use. The Task Force includes Detectives from the Boise Police Department, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agency and the Idaho National Guard, working as part of a multi-jurisdictional task force called B.A.N.D.I.T. (Boise Area Narcotics and Drug Interdiction Task Force), commissioned to protect the community from illegal drug activity.
