Two months to the day of a Nampa home exploded, the survivor spoke for the first time Wednesday about the remarkable chain of events with only Today’s 6.
Larry King said he turned away from his stove after heating water and didn’t hear anything, but felt the tremendous force.
"I traveled out with it that's why I have no head injuries on my head, the refrigerator knocked off the roof," said King.
Larry recalled insulation falling on top of him.
"So I was swimming my way to make a breathing hole like you would do in an avalanche," he said.
In and out of consciousness, Larry told a neighbor to turn off the gas and says he heard emergency responder sirens coming toward him.
"I knew I had a chance," said King.
Larry told Today’s 6 the next thing he remembered was firefighters removing debris around him and then being taken into an ambulance.
He went to the hospital with nothing, everything was destroyed.
"Somebody bought me a pair of glasses, bless them," said King.
Larry suffers from brain and nerve damage and 13 compound fractures in his legs.
He has physical therapy for an hour a day and says he’ll remain in a treatment facility for another year.
