Boise Firefighters responded to a house fire in southwest Boise about 5:30 Wednesday morning. When they arrived, an Ada County Sheriff's deputy and an ACSO Sergeant were giving an elderly woman CPR.
The woman, a male family member, and the deputy were all transported by ambulance to the hospital with smoke inhalation. The deputy has since been released from the hospital.
According to Fire Department spokeswoman Lynn Hightower, Boise Firefighters were called by a neighbor to the 5300 block of S. Missoula Way, northeast of Maple Grove Road and Desert Avenue in Ada County. The area is served by Boise Fire and the Whitney Fire District.
The fire response immediately went to a second alarm. The neighbor had advised fire dispatch an elderly woman was still inside the home; and the neighbor reported a male family member in his 30s was able to escape the burning home. The woman was reported to be in a rear bedroom of the home.
When fire crews arrived, flames were already engulfing much of the garage and adjacent living space. Firefighters immediately took over performing CPR on the woman. Both firefighters and EMS were able to resuscitate her.
The conditions of both the woman, who is in her 80s, and the male family have not yet been released.
Because a second alarm was called, 5 engines, 2 ladder trucks, a water tender, support and command staff all responded from the Boise Fire Department. Hightower said, "Water supply is an issue in the area. Firefighters report the nearest fire hydrant is approx 1,000 feet from the home. Because of water supply issues in the area, a water tender permanently assigned to Boise Fire Station 14 is always dispatched to assist firefighters in that area."
Investigators say the fire started in the family room near a fireplace.
