Gun Found in Idaho Falls High School

Police have removed a handgun from a student at the Hillcrest High School in Idaho Falls.

On Thursday, a Bonneville County Deputy Sheriff who is also the Hillcrest High School Resource Officer received information that a male student was carrying a concealed handgun that he had shown to other students.

According to Sheriff's Department spokesman Capt. Samuel Hulse, "The School Resource Officer was able to locate the 17-year-old student on school grounds and did find that the student was in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.  The student was arrested without incident and transported to (a) Juvenile Detention Facility.  The Sheriff's Office is not aware that any threats were made toward other students, by the student carrying the gun. "

The student is currently being charged with Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds and being a Minor in Possession of a Handgun. Both are misdemeanors.
