A bank robbery suspect is in police custody following a high-speed pursuit that started in Garden City and ended amidst rush hour traffic on Eagle Road.
Joshua Johnson, 33, was arrested after the chase. He faces seven charges including bank robbery, and assaulting an officer. He's also the prime suspect in Tuesday's bank robbery in Boise.
Police say Johnson walked into the Garden City Mountain West Bank on State Street near Glenwood demanding cash with a note then took off. Witnesses gave police a detailed description of Johnson, including the suspect's getaway car.
Moments later, police spotted that vehicle near the intersection of Garrett St. and Chinden Blvd. They tried to stop the car, but the driver sped away.
Realizing Johnson was a possible suspect in the bank robbery, police immediately began pursuing. The chase reportedly reached speeds of 80 miles an hour, through traffic.
Near Chinden Blvd. and Eagle Road, according to Hightower, the suspect appeared to have intentionally hit the pursuing police cars.
The suspect then turned south on Eagle Road. Police soon initiated a PIT maneuver south of McMillan Road, stopped the vehicle, and took Johnson into custody.
No other cars were involved.
