Some Idaho schools to begin testing for nicotine

Associated Press - October 29, 2009 11:34 AM ET

BURLEY, Idaho (AP) - The Cassia County School Board says its schools will begin testing some student athletes for nicotine in an effort to measure tobacco use.

The Times-News reports that the board said half the athletes undergoing district-mandated random alcohol and drug testing will also be screened for nicotine. Those results will be reviewed as the district decides whether to implement a tobacco-testing policy among all athletes.

Cassia County School District Attorney says no other district in the state has a nicotine testing policy.
