The Ada County Housing Authority helps 19-hundred families every month. But with housing cuts across the country Idahoan families are feeling the pinch.
David Ross is a Meridian resident who gets federal help for housing.
But when he received a letter from the Ada County Housing about increasing his rent from $366-dollars to $510 he was shocked.
"I'm on a fixed income, I'm on disability I only get paid once a month and it was tough enough before and the extra $144 dollars is going to be really tough," said David Ross.
Ross is the only one supporting his 3 kids. His wife is still looking for work but has been unemployed for almost a year.
He says he's cut cable, cut back on electricity, and everything else just to make ends meat.
"Cut everything down to the core, I even have my motorcycle for sale. I was making car payments but had to let that go too," said Ross.
Ada County Housing said there was nothing they could do with the federal shortfall.
"Our choices were either terminate families all together from the program or increase the share of rent families paid," said the Executive Director of the Ada County Housing Deanna Watson.
Ross says he had a feeling something like this would happen. But says he's prepared for the worst.
"When we had the means of doing so I went and bought a 5th wheel trailer just in case we did lose our home, at least we have something over our heads," said Ross.
The Ada County Housing said they are reapplying for federal aid.
