TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - National farming figures show Idaho dairies produced a little more than 1 billion pounds of milk in September, a total down from the previous month and from the same period a year ago.
Dairy farms in Idaho produced 1.01 billion pounds in September, a 2.3 percent decrease from September 2008 and a 4.8 percent decline from August, when production reached 1.06 billion pounds.
Milk producers in Idaho and the nation have struggled in the last year with low milk prices and reductions in demand. At the same time, producers have not seen any cost breaks in feed for cows.
Nationwide, milk production in the 23 leading dairy states for September was 13.9 billion pounds, down 0.7 percent from the same period a year ago.
