Nampa mayoral candidate must pay former employee

Associated Press - October 23, 2009 10:14 AM ET

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - A candidate for mayor in southwestern Idaho agreed last year to pay $40,000 to settle a sexual discrimination charge brought by a former employee.

Jim Dorsey, who is among those running against incumbent Tom Dale in November, was targeted by a civil action in 2005 by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission "to correct unlawful employment practices on the basis of sex and to provide appropriate relief," the Idaho Press-Tribune reported Friday.

The commission contended that female employees were subjected to discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace at Dorsey's businesses, The Burrito Shoppe, Squeezers Giant Burgers and Allied Foodservice.

Pamela Parks, director of the Idaho Human Rights Commission, said this week Dorsey is meeting settlement obligations.

Dorsey says "the action was not against me personally, it was against the company. Based on legal advice we entered into a settlement agreement."
