ARCO, Idaho (AP) - Officials with the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state have signed the last of 25 Superfund records of decision for the Idaho National Laboratory.
The 890-square-mile laboratory was added to a Superfund national priority list in 1989 because of waste buried there from the 1950s and 1960s. Cleanup started immediately, but the state and federal officials signed an agreement and consent order in 1991 detailing how the cleanup must be completed.
The new record of decision details the process for addressing any contamination discovered in the future, the Idaho State Journal reported.
