Former worker wins settlement in N. Idaho

Associated Press - October 11, 2009 2:04 PM ET

SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) - The former Bonner County human resources director won an out-of-court settlement in her federal court lawsuit against the county on a claim she was unfairly forced from her job.

Donna Wells, 60, filed the lawsuit in November 2008 in U.S. District Court.

The terms of last month's settlement aren't disclosed in court documents.

Wells lost her job after county commissioners said she exposed the county to liability by recording a phone conversation with a dispatch shift supervisor concerning medical issues within the department.

Wells contended her constitutional right to due process was violated when she was forced from her job in June 2008.

Wells' attorney, Lawrence Beck, did not respond to a request for comment.

Bonner County commissioners, who were named in the lawsuit, hadn't seen the settlement and declined to comment.
