TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Police say a Nevada man broke his ankle after his equipment malfunctioned during a BASE parachute jump from a Snake River canyon bridge in south-central Idaho.

Peter Garcia of Wells, Nev., had a hard landing on Saturday evening after one line of his parachute twisted when he jumped off Perrine Bridge some 480 feet above the river.

Jerome County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew West tells The Times-News that Garcia landed on rocks on the north side of the river and was taken by boat to Centennial Park and then to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center.

Garcia was listed in good condition on Sunday evening.

At more than 5,000 jumps annually, the bridge is 1 of the world's most-frequented BASE jump sites. The acronym refers to buildings, antennae, spans and earth.
