Boise firefighters will remain on scene, likely into the evening, after a brush fire burned approximately five acres between Table Rock and Warm Springs Mesa, in southeast Boise.
"The fire burned through a large, very rocky area," said Boise Fire Division Chief Bruce Rankin. "It's going to take firefighters a significant amount of time to be sure the fire is completely out because it burned deep into the rocks."
Boise firefighters were called at 11:45 a.m. this morning by a neighbor in the area of S. Trent Point Way reporting a brush fire. The fire appears to have started at the end of a cul-de-sac off E. Windsong Dr. in Warm Springs Mesa, said BFD spokeswoman Lynn Hightower.
Boise Fire Department crews responded with 4 engines, 3 brush rigs, plus support and command staff. They also had help by an engine from the U.S. Forest Service, and 2 engines and a helicopter from the Bureau of Land Management.
Fortunately, the fire burned in grass and sagebrush, and away from homes, toward Table Rock, Ranklin said. He added no structures were threatened by the fire.
The fire went uphill until firefighters were able to stop the flames at a the bike path. The BLM helicopter assisted by dropping water from the Boise River on the flames.
Boise Police have closed Table Rock Rd. to allow for fire operations.
Fire investigators are on scene. No cause has been determined, but preliminarily, Hightower says, the fire appears to be human caused.
