West Nile Infected Mosquitos Found In Canyon County
Five trap locations in Canyon County which were tested during the week of July 20 to July 25 are showing West Nile virus activity.

Two trap sites on Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge had positive mosquitoes. The first location is off Lake Shore Drive near the lower embankment dam, Caldwell. The second location on Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge is the North Refuge Marsh located below the upper embankment dam, Nampa off of Lake Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue.

One trap site was located off of Highway 95 and Boise River Road in Parma, and the fourth trap site is located at Canyon Hill Cemetery off of North Illinois Avenue, Caldwell.

The fifth trap site is located in rural Melba off of Hill Road and Ferry near Celebration Park.

We are entering the peak of West Nile Virus activity and the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District is deploying its resources and emphasis on the above reported West Nile Virus activity areas. Follow-up trapping will be conducted next week to determine affects of abatement operations.

Please remember to take precautions and protect yourself and your family from West Nile Virus. Wear insect repellent with DEET, wear long-sleeved clothing and long pants when going outside after dusk, and remove or replace all standing water around your property. For more information, look at the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District's page on the Canyon County website at www.canyonco.org.
