BOISE, IDAHO-
One hundred Treasure Valley residents slapped with a letter from the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority. The letter explained to residents that their section 8 vouchers were being terminated.
"It's really tough my reaction was to start crying because it was just the one thing we really didn't need", says Rochelle McCauley.
Rochelle McCauley and her husband Adam have been a part of the program only 6 months. The couple and their two children will have to start paying full rent starting August first.
"Right now we are scrambling to try and figure out where we're going to end up if we are going to be able to afford to stay here", McCauley said.
Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority Executive Director Deanna Watson tells Today's Channel 6; the program is short about one million dollars. The agency is hoping that the terminations are only short term.
"We have filed two appeals to HUD requesting additional money to help rebalance so we wouldn't have to terminate families", says Watson.
Watson says they are in a holding pattern and if worse comes to worse more families could actually be cut. HUD at last check had about 900 requests for appeals.
