North Idaho couple sentenced in drug money case

Associated Press - June 22, 2009 6:14 PM ET

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a north Idaho couple for laundering money for more than three decades for a group involved in peddling marijuana.

U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill sentenced John "Phil" Keyser to 33 months in prison and his wife, Texanna, to three months in prison and another 7 of home detention.

The couple, who once operated a diner in Priest River, were also ordered to forfeit properties valued at $875,000. The court ruled the couple illegally obtained assets in that amount.

The Keysers pleaded guilty last year to receiving and laundering drug proceeds of 2 men who operated a marijuana trafficking operation. Federal prosecutors say the Keysers laundered drug money in the sale and purchase of several properties, including the Village Kitchen diner.
