A high speed chase suspect eluded police twice over the past eight hours.
A little after 2 AM, an Oregon State Police trooper pulled over a suspected drunk driver on I-84 in Ontario. As the trooper approached the vehicle, the SUV sped away. The chase went through two states and four counties.
As the chase, which reached speeds upwards of 115 miles per hour, crossed the state line, Idaho State Police joined in. More agencies got involved as the pursuit made its way along the interstate into Canyon County. Eventually the fleeing driver detoured onto Highway 44. It all came to a standstill when police laid down spike strips, disabling the SUV just outside the town of Star.
The driver was taken into custody and then transported to the hospital. However, this morning police captured the man again after he fled St. Luke's in Meridian. He was cornered at gunpoint in a nearby neighborhood, transported to the Ada County Jail, and then taken back to the hospital according to Idaho State Police spokesman Rick Ohnsman.
The driver's identity has not been released.
